In 1902, an Italian family embarked on a voyage to Brazil to create a new life. They settled in Campinas and began growing coffee. In 1908, the eldest son Donato started a booth at the city's market, selling green coffee beans and educating housewives on proper coffee roasting. This business was unique because of its emphasis on education. Over time, the family expanded their venture and established a gourmet shop. After a pause of working with coffee and the parents' passage, Donato took over the family business. In 1976, the family reinvested in agriculture and founded Daterra, which initially explored various farming ventures but eventually rediscovered coffee—the bean that started their journey. The region where Daterra farms are situated offers an ideal climate for coffee cultivation, with steady weather patterns characterized by dry-fresh winters and warm-wet summers.
