Paprik has participated in the Canadian Brewers Cup five times. This year, he celebrated his first win, which allows him to represent Canada on the world stage. For the competition, he prepared two coffees from Finca La Negrita, a farm he holds in high regard in Colombia: a Geisha Lot 25 and a Typica Mejorado. He chose to present the Geisha Lot 25 during the competition, leaving the Typica Mejorado available for those who might be interested in tasting it. This coffee can be ordered online, with the roast being the same as the one used in the competition.
His theme this year focuses on high concentration, high extraction, and highly developed coffee. He aims for high concentration by utilizing a high brew ratio and non-bypass brewers. His goal for high extraction is reflected in the total dissolved solids (TDS) of his final coffee, which ranges from 1.91 to 1.95. In his roasting approach, he seeks to develop the coffee over a longer roast time, achieving a roast level that he believes is darker than many fruity espressos in the specialty coffee scene.
